The Headaches of Picking a Captain in Fantasy Premier League

03:49

Analyzing weekend captain choice

Before a gameweek starts every fantasy premier league manager has a headache which is caused by  two decisions. The decisions made determine if you will be having a fantasy nightmare or a dream.I have been through those situations and in order to  bounce back from the nightmare here are some set of rules I have been following and they have been keeping me at least above 300K  and still going up:

Never captain a defender- when the season started every was desperate for a captain pick since the usual suspects like Rooney,Walcott, Mata,Hazard  were only giving you two points or sometimes when you are lucky giving you three points because of  a clean sheet.

During that time clean sheets were many and yeah managers captained Zabaleta  and some paid off handsomely while some collect just two points. But the risks of captaining a defender are so high since you are only dependent on a cleansheet unlike a midfielder who might get an assist or even a goal

Never make a last minute captain change or transfers : the probability of it paying off is much lower. I once had the  same experience ,in gameweek 9 I did the worst transfers in history of fpl , I transferred in Giroud for Lukaku since Arsenal were facing crystal palace away and Everton were facing Aston villa away.

I did this move for a hit and I did it two minutes before deadline . I then changed my captain choice from Suarez to Giroud. The crystal palace game kicked off at 12:45 GMT and after a goalless first half I was  sweating that my captain choice might get a blank.

When the second half started Arteta was given a red card then I knew my nightmare was about to begin as the red would reduce the chances of Giroud scoring but luckily he scored a last minute goal and I was all smiles.

But after the Liverpool game where Suarez, my former captain choice, had scored a hattrick I could not even reload my fpl page out of embarrassment of seeing only red arrows and your ranking falling to even I can't say it. In conclusion ,that last minute move cost me 32 points, how sad.

After that demise I came to learn that in fpl when in doubt about a captain choice always go with the team at home.

Conclusion

That's it for today as my first article in fpl am glad to those who will read it and recommend any changes in the future. Have a superb gameweek people.
